Intertestamento or intertestamentary period is, for Christianity, the religious time that mediated between Old and New Testament and by extension, the writings and movements that served as bridge between both Testaments .
Traditionally it has been considered that began after the death of the prophet Malaquías towards V  century; a. and finished with the mission of Juan Baptist in Century I . Nevertheless one has struggled much on the matter. On the one hand Judaism is discussed on the belief common in, according to which " the sky cerró" and " Spirit Santo retired of Israel" and for that reason from Malaquías was not written more books of Hebrew Bible. For Protestantism it means that the canon of the Old Testament was closed, but is no agreement on if Esdras and Nehemías lived before, in the same years or after Malaquías and the Intertesatamento begins with them. Several experts, even protestant consider that Eclesiastés and Libro de Daniel was written later and the intertestamentary period hardly began in IV  century; a. or even more recently.
The question becomes more complex, if it is considered that catholic, orthodox and other Christians consider like part of the Old Testament to Deuterocanónicos, some of which were written in I  century; a. and therefore consider that Intertestamento covers from that century to Century I
After André Paul, Intertestamento cannot be limited by fixed dates, imposed a posteriori by dogmatic and controversial criteria, but it is a abierto period, determined by the real conditions of literary production of the human groups that wrote and transcribed those that considered their Escrituras.Así, the majority of books of the Old Testament were not writings in one go, by the first author of each, but they were a collective work that extended in the time and the same is applicable to books of the New Testament.
The manuscripts of Written by hand of the Dead Sea found in the area of Qumrán, are an abundant sample of intertestamentary Literature. Esenios integral of this community considered like fundamental to escudriñar the writings, midrash hatorâh, and they considered " escudriñadores of the Ley" beth hattroâh, that invoked the inspiration of the Spirit Santo.
