Galitzia from the partitions

1772, Galitzia became the greater part of the territory annexed by Austria in First Partition of Poland . In this way, the region of Austrian control between Poland and the Ukraine was well-known as Kingdom of Galitzia and Lodomeria ( Lodomeria is seen ), with the purpose of to despise the Hungarian pretensions on this territory. Nevertheless, an ample portion of Small Poland ( Mał opolska ) also was added to this province, that changed the geographic reference of the Galitzia term.

Leópolis (Lemberg during the Austrian domination, until 1918) was the capital of the Austrian Galitzia, dominated subsidiarily by Polish Aristocracy in spite of the fact that the population of Eastern half of the province was to a large extent bielorrusa (northeastern sector) and Ukrainian (Eastern sector), with ample Jewish minorities of and Poles. The Poles also were overwhelmingly majority in recently annexed western half of Galitzia.

After Batalla de Radzyn in 1809, the Polish army reclaimed western half of Galitzia. After Congress of Vienna of 1815, Galitzia again returned to be able Austrian, and in 1867, when the Austrian empire transformed into Austrohungarian Empire, Galitzia along with the western sector of Volinia happened to form a territory directly controlled by Austria with the name of Galitzia and Lodomeria (Lodomeria was the latinizado name used by the Hungarian Austrians and to talk about to the Volinia).

This situation lasted until aims of World War I ( 1918 ). The Austrian domination was tolerant in comparison with which they carried out Prussian and Russian. From 1867 Galitzia it counted on an ample political and cultural autonomy within the Double Monarchy, although the power followed into the hands of the Polish nobility and the church, faithful allies of the House of Hasburgo. After World War I, rutenos (in this case Ukrainian tried to create one Rutena Republic in the Galitzia, still more when being Eastern Galitzia to the east of Curzon Line, that is to say the line that indicated after World War I the first Eastern limits of Poland . Nevertheless, to offset the restoration of Comunism in Russia and the creation of USSR, the Polish forces quickly seized of all Galitzia, this situation became serious in 1920, being altered after the invasion to Poland by Third Reich and the USSR Stalinista in 1939 ; just a short time later the Third Reich occupied all Galitzia, and after the fiasco of the Third Reich, when concluding World War II, Galitzia again was divided (according to ethnic criteria) between Poland and Soviet Socialist Republic of the Ukraine (such socialist republic in the real thing was a territory of USSR ), so that in 1946 Galitzia was divided between Poland and the USSR with the limits that at the moment it has. In 1991, after colapsar the USSR, the Eastern Galitzia has passed to be part of the present republic of the Ukraine .

The migration
