Chancay civilization was developed of the years 1. between valleys of Chancay, Gaudy, Rímac and Lurín, in the central coast of Peru . Its center was located to 80 kilometers to the north of Lima . One is a basically desert territorial location, but with fertile valleys bathed by rich rivers and in resources, that allowed, among others, a high development of agriculture.

This culture arises when Wari Culture dissolves . The commerce that develops the Chancay civilization with other regions was intense and allowed to contact with other cultures and towns in an extended area. The Chancay culture decays in Century XV to give to territorial step to its originating conquerors of Empire Inca .


This culture based its economy on Agriculture, Pesca and Comercio .

In order to develop agriculture, their engineers constructed to reservorios of water and channels of irrigated land. Wood statures

Like their pottery, the wood sculptures of this town of agriculturists and fishermen are characterized by simplicity, sobriety and naturalismo of the forms, being against to the sophistication of their textile crafts. In the city of Chancay, Archaeological Museum of the Chancay Culture exists, located in the Castle of the city of Chancay . This museum was created 23 of July of 1991, during the management of the mayor Luis Sebastián Houses by means of the municipal resolution N° 161 - CDCH/91 destining itself as local the old castle as it soothes of the institution.

In order to carry out this work one made contact with enemy with the National Museum of Anthropology and History of Peru for the support, that expressed in the company/signature of the agreement of technical cooperation between the mentioned museum and the municipality of chancay.

At the beginning of year 1992 an archeologist assumed the position of investigation and conservation, being elaborated the project of institutional growth of this museum. To the existing collection, the donations of some settlers of were added city of Chancay
